I have known Ms. Hancock for over 10 years professionally and personally. She is very thorough and in my experience, clients are already ahead of the game by hiring her because the judges really respect her. I was reading her reviews and Im sorry but I have to comment. Ive worked with lawyers for decades. Lawyers charge for phone calls and emails. Thats standard. But Ive never heard anyone complain about Ms. Hancocks billing.Its not fair that someone would write a review and complain about what the retainer they had to sign must have spelled out. I do not know of a lawyer that does not bill for what they do. Does not even make sense. She is a great person and she likes dogs. Which says so much about a person. I would trust her with my family law problems and my will. For sure. Shes the best.

Extremely unprofessional. My wife and I have been been dealing with a custody battle with her kids father and at first, Melissa seemed very professional and understanding. But as time went on, she started asking for more and more money and started billing us for things that didnt make sense and things that werent needed. She would bill us for talking to her paralegals, her sending us emails, everything you could think of. One week we owed 500, the next week we owed 900 plus another retainer, which we were going to pay but she didnt have it the day she asked for it, so she withdrew from the case. WE ENDED UP PAYING $5000 FOR HER TO NOT GET ANYTHING DONE AND JUST WITHDRAW FROM THE CASE....She is a pocket watcher and that is all she is concerned with. Her and her staff are very unprofessional and very disrespectful when it's not convenient for them.. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND FINDING ANOTHER ATTORNEY!!

Attorney Melissa Hancock is the only board certified female divorce attorney for 50 miles that I am aware of. She is an excellent attorney and even more a wonderful and giving daughter, friend and human being. She is genuine and real and whether shes acting as an opposing counsel or a guardian ad litem, she works diligently. Most of the attorneys in town refer our adoption cases to her because she is the best in the business.If I were getting divorced, or had a custody issue, I wouldnt think twice about hiring her. She is as honest as they come-and will work for you as hard as possible achieving the absolute best results for you and your family.

HORRIBLE! BEWARE If you are a man seeking a divorce do not hire Melissa Hancock! She does not look out for the best interest of her client. She even told the opposing attorney that I had agreed to a settlement that I had never agreed to or signed off on. It took her 9 weeks after a $3,500 initial payment just to send out an offer page. She went through 3 different Paralegals in a 7 month time frame. With each Paralegal I was repeating the facts of my case and I was asked to update my files. I was then billed for each individual time that this was done. After a full 8 months had passed Melissa Hancock had still not even filed for the divorce in my case, the opposing attorney did! I fired her and hired another attorney. Within a few months my divorce was finalized and I got a fair settlement and all for a small flat rate fee.
