I hired Atticus in a custody case following my divorce. My ex had clearly breached our decree by moving out of state weeks after the divorce was finalized. After working with Matt it was clear that we had all of the information and details to fight a very strong case. As we approach our motion hearing Matt suggested that we delayed submitting our documents till the last minute to keep the opposing side on their toes. As a result, once we arrive in court the judge and opposing attorney were very upset about the way we handled our filings. The judge would not listen to our arguments and I don't think he even read them. We literally never discussed my child or the issue at hand, I sat back as I watched my lawyer and the other fight back and forth about how documents were filed. The judge gave us the option to go to trial and I took it. This would have resulted in tripling my attorney fees with a multi day trial, which in my mind the case should have been closed out the first attempt.I was able to settle outside of court because my ex knew in a trial she was going to lose big (what my attorney should have done the first time we were in court).After all was said and done I spoke with Matt and we agreed on a discounted amount that I owed the firm due to my disappointment. Matt informed me that he would send me the billing information, he never did. I chose to wait until he came asking for money rather than offering it up since my service was so poor and I had no idea what the total was. Six months later his office reached out asking me to pay. I was in the process of selling my house and we agreed that I would pay a monthly fee until my house was sold and at that time I would pay in full. I paid the two and half months in one lump sum and several weeks later, to my surprise, Matt put a Lien on my house causing issues with my pending sale.As I explained to Matt, this was one of the hardest times in my life. I was looking for someone to partner with and from start to finish I struggled to feel comfortable with the process and my representation.

Matt was very helpful in advising our family when our mother passed away with out a Will. He explained the process and worked at our pace to get the estate settled. Now my father recently passed away up in Crow Wing County, He has helpfully given a second opinion on some concerns of ours.Updated 5/12/20. Matt acts more like a friend that is attorney that always willing to give advice and even dig for details. As I said I have attorney working a probate in Crow Wing county. When I asked this attorney a question, he answered with 3 words, and no real advice or reasons. I asked Matt, he dug in and gave me an opinion and backed it with details I needed. It's pretty clear that Matt values a good relationship with his clients. In my business dealings, I have worked with (and against) several lawyers. Some with same legal knowledge, but probably only one other that I put in same class as Matt in terms of valuing a solid relationship with the client. If I could I would give Matt 10 stars.

Matthew Ludt and his team were wonderful to work with. Exceptional in communication, making sure I understood every step of the process. From attentively gathering all the details, and laying out road maps of how to proceed, to explaining alternative ways to approach each step depending on curve balls other parties tossed our way. Not only were they concerned with making sure all my questions were answered, and I was comfortable in understanding of the process, but as things shifted, and curve balls came; genuinely listened to my concerns, and already knew exactly how to attack each item.
