This man is compassionate. I truly believe he has a care for the people he represents . He has a value for truth and what is right. He speaks with class and dignity and has many years of experience that show in court. He is expensive as is ANY attorney but is worth every penny. Many attorneys seem to be in it for money at any cost philosophy which is why so many people can't stand them but this one has a conscience. He is soft spoken but his words pierce like an arrow.

Hes very understanding listens and takes action right away, specially in my situation, by far the best experience for needing a fist time lawyer, hes the guy to go to!! I went to Van Kinney with $3k to make sure I could retain him, and as soon as he found out I was a Native American tribal member at Redding Rancheria he wanted nothing to do with helping me. I felt so belittled I felt as if I were molested in a way I guess is the only way I could put it now I know how it feels to have the race card get pulled, this is one corrupt attorney and county they are all in the same exact buddy system together they all eat lunch together the attorneys the DA the judge they all are in bed together if you want an attorney go out of Shasta County if you know its good for your child!

This man is unethical , just like the other reviews say. He will steal your money when we called to check in on our case he became angry and screamed at us. 'what do you expect me to do.' He should have told us he couldn't help us before he to our money. He took us for 1500.00 and never did a thing for us. We went to Chico because Shasta County Child support division is as crooked as this guy. We used Norman Ryker who came all the way to shasta county to defend us and we ended up making our case equitable and was owed money instead.. He ripped us off , he's unprofessional , his poor reviews are the same experience we had. Read the CA bar reviews on this man. NOT GOOD! Pick anybody BUT HIM. He should be put out of business and sued by all the people he has ripped off. Class action law suit.This review is long over due, hope it helps someone from making a big mistake.

Extremely unprofessional and irresponsible. They delayed the delivery of the divorce papers with two weeks blaming on the delivery services. When asked why the paperwork was delayed the answer was, 'Well it got there anyway right'! Not an answer of a professionalism!

Van Kinney is arguably the most corrupt and unethical lawyer in Shasta County. He has a long list of complaints, ethics violations, and sanctions, and license suspensions listed on the California Bar Assn. Website. His daughter Chase Kinney is every bit as corrupt and unethical.He also appears to have an extremely bad reputation for being unethical in the legal community of Shasta County. Three lawyers and a paralegal stated without prompting that he was known to be the most unethical lawyers in the county. He has harmed me by using intentional fraud, deception, unethical behaviors (especially a serious undisclosed conflict of interest) to obtain information that has been used against me causing severe financial harm.Do not for a minute trust this corrupt lawyer!

Mr. Kinney is a great guy. Hes also a phenomenal attorney. He knows the law and is able to communicate this to his clients. I would give him 10 stars if google allowed it. The staff is also amazing. They work great together which provides another level of service. Mr. Kinney holds himself to a higher standard and this shows with his community involvement. His ethical prowess is second to none.

Ethically Challenged Father and Daughter Team.He states you receive a free consultation, I was billed over $700.00 for that 'Free consultation.' Make sure to check out his reviews at the State Bar, because there are other complaints about how he is notorious for overcharging clients, this is malpractice.

Lied about everything he could do and did absolutely nothing to help us. He nded up yelling at us most of the time and constantly wanted more and more money for a job he was not doing.

If you are looking for a good family law attorney, stay far away from Van Kinney. He states you receive a free consultation, after taking all my money, I was billed $390.00 for that Free consultation. Then when I hadn't heard from him in 3 weeks, I called his office to get an update, spoke for 1 min. , and then was billed $90.00 as tele conference. when I retained him as my attorney, 15 min. in his office to pay and sign some doc.s , I was billed $270.00 as a conference with client. After speaking with him about my case 3 different occasions, it was clear he never remembered anything I told him or he had said to me, I think he is suffering dementia / alzheimer's. In our coversations he lied to me and berated me, extreme unprofessional. Save yourself allot of money and time. Find a professional attorney !

Totally dishonest. Was over a year ago but was thinking about how he handled my case. It didn't turn out horrible for me because he lied which helped me in the short term but now my ex in-laws have correctly stated that I got custody based on lies. I feel like if Kinney was honest, I would have ended up with shared custody which is all I was looking for to begin with. He said if we had been honest, I might not have gotten any custody which is an insult.
