I retained Mr. Russell to handle my dissolution with children and we discussed all options and he helped establish a fair and reasonable shared parenting time schedule with my ex-husband. He excels at negotiations and unlike many people, I understand that there is no winner in divorce/dissolutions/custody matters. It is imperative to reach a reasonable resolution rather than 'beating your former spouse in court'. I agreed with Mr. Russel that it is far better to try and resolve issues between the parties rather than leaving it up to a Judge. Simply put, there are things that you have to give up in return to acquire the things that matter most to you. Our dissolution was fairly easy and was completed in under 3 months which required both parties to be amenable (not always the case which can drag things out). Mr. Russell also proved to also be an excellent reference when I moved out of state in search of a new job. He is a class act and don't be fooled by his easy going demeanor to mean that he is passive or easily manipulated by opposing counsel. His ability to keep a cool head and calm demeanor allows for a more positive outcome for his clients. He cares about his clients and he will give you straight answers rather than making promises which is often times misconstrued by the lay person who may not understand the processes of litigation. I chose Scott primarily because hes listed as a Super Lawyer for family law. My experience with him was he over engaged in meaningless discussions and having to recap conversations and direction that had already been discussed (and of course charging his hourly rate to do so). He missed 2 pre-trial hearings and sent a jr attorney instead (and I do understand that things happen). I feel like he is way more concerned about being viewed as easy to deal with by opposing counsel and the courts than with representing me. He didnt fight for anything and basically rolled over to avoid conflict. I dropped in on him unexpectedly to witness his performance on a pre-trial conference call and he was so nervous his hands were shaking and he was stuttering - and he got handled by opposing counsel without any pushback at all. Later, when I told him I was disappointed with the lack of fight for issues discussed, he dropped me as a client, filed a motion to withdrawal as counsel, and filed a notice saying that I understood that I couldnt be granted a continuance due to changing counsel. Not so coincidentally - my $5,000 retainer was nearing its end and He knew additional money would not be paid for such poor representation. Bottom line - my experience with him is that he makes excuses why he cant show up, hes a pushover, isnt (Client) result oriented. I will be reviewing options for escalating a complaint to the bar and seeking a refund. Absolutely not worth the high hourly rate. I believe he comes recommended as a super lawyer and by his peers because he avoids conflict. Unless the conflict is with me - and even then its communicated via email, after he already removed himself from having to deal with the conflict. Not a fighter.

Scott was able to review a settlement contract for my Mother's estate. While this wasn't his normal type of case, he was able to advise me in a manner that suited my needs and got me a positive outcome. He has also helped a few of my friends and family obtain favorable outcomes in divorce cases and obtain Civil Protection Orders against an abusive spouse.

A straight shooting, consummate professional who tells you what you need to hear, and works relentlessly to deliver results. Scott helped my family and I work through some difficult situations in a compassionate manner. While their typically are no winners in family law, he helped make the whole process more bearable, while producing the best possible outcomes for all involved. Highly recommended.

I am disappointed with my return on investment while retaining Scott. I spent approx 25k in 6mos with little to no results. It felt like he was being managed by the opposing attorney. Once I replaced Scott the case began to move in a positive direction.
