I cannot recommend Jim Thompson highly enough. Our family will be forever thankful for him and his entire firm. He is incredibly kind, professional and trustworthy. There is no question that he cared deeply for our family throughout the adoption process. His legal expertise and dependability were extremely helpful and he advocated so well for our daughter when it was needed most. We will be forever thankful for his work.

My husband and I first met Jim a little more than 3 years ago when we were feeling hopeless. We had been going through our adoption process for 3 years and had gained no more than just custody of our little one. We took one last desperate leap at finalizing a lot that had been promised to us by our previous attorney and for the first time seen how the process really should have worked. Jim and his assistant worked diligently with us and combed through all the paperwork we came with, not to mention all the tears that were shed in his office and over the phone. No matter how worried we got; he put us at ease. My goodness I could write a book on what we had been through. Jim turned everything around in the blink of an eye. Jim was so professional and knowledgeable that we were blown away at how great of an attorney that he proved to be. He showed us kindness and compassion. When we left his office after our first meeting, my husband and I sat in the parking lot and just sobbed. We found hope. Jim was not interested in just another client; he wanted to help a family and a little boy that needed a mommy and daddy. He knew our desperation, but did not look at us as easy money. Jim wanted what was best for our little boy. Dec. 16, 2016 our family was made whole as our adoption was made final. Again, we can't thank Jim enough for what he done for our family.There are no words that can describe the lengths that Mr. Jim Thompson has gone to for my family and I. I highly recommend Jim to anyone seeking an attorney who is knowledgeable and willing to go above and beyond to help. He has proven to my family on more than one occasion that he truly cares our family.

Do not call them if youre pregnant or any other adoption lawyer or agency. They did not give me the full truth. They only care about getting your baby. There are plenty of organizations that will give you truthful and fair information, and truly allow you to make an informed decision. This is not one of them.

I worked with this company for my adoption and they were extremely accommodating and even fun to do business with. I personally worked with Nancy but I've met with Lauren on several occasions and she is delightful. My sister also used this company for her adoption and recommends them highly.

Where to begin? My wife and I got pregnant through reciprocal IVF in Spain and gave birth in Switzerland. The legal situation for same-sex couples in Europe is fairly dire and so we were desperate to find an adoption solution in the US. We were referred to James Thompson by a lawyer from our hometown in Brooklyn, NY. Mary Waldrop was quickly responsive and helpful in setting up an initial call and we felt immediately confident and comfortable working with everyone at the firm. Flying across the globe with our 9 month-old son for a possible adoption decree was a bit terrifying but with the cool guidance of everyone at the law offices of James Fletcher Thompson, we boarded the plane. Just two days into our trip we received good news from Jim that we could be seen by a judge and jumped into action. What resulted was a positive meeting with a guardian and a heart-warming conclusion in which my wife and I were both able to legally adopt our own son. Having legal recognition of our family means the world to us and we take back this adoption decree to Switzerland with high hopes it will be recognized by all.

Are you kidding me, this is the best lawyer ever!! We used his firm to adopt our foster daughter in a contested adoption. Jim Thompson fought hard for us, and her, every step of the way. He is highly respected amongst the other players in the system; caseworkers, judges, DSS attorneys, even defense attorneys. He was 100% honest with us all the time on what our options were and what our chances were; he will not sugarcoat it just to get your business but at the same time he is confident in his abilities. If you want the best go here. I know foster parents from all over the state traveling to Spartanburg because they are not willing to take any chances and only want the best. Big shout out to his paralegal Mary Waldrop too who was always super prompt, hard working and genuinely cares about her clients. Hi, I am the birth mother she was talking about. I would recommend them for adoptions. Because they are fair and won't pressure you into making decisions and also don't give you false expectations of what to expect in South Carolina seeing as they know the law down there pretty well, it is why they are lawyers afterall. If you feel any shady dealings have gone on then you may be on the wrong page reviewing the wrong lawyer, but I can redirect you to the correct shady lawyers you meant to review...

Will lie and deceive to get a signature. Once they get your baby they will ignore you completely. The recommendation they use on their website, stating is from a birthmother, is actually from a mother who got her baby back. The information they provide about adoption to expectant parents is incomplete and misleading. They are willing to do very shady and unethical things to obtain babies for their clients. You as an expectant mother are not their client and they do not have you or your child's best interest at heart.

Mr. Thompson and everyone at his firm are unbelievable people. What he has done to make my family whole can not be put into words. He is someone I look up to, someone who took the time away from his family so he could help mine, someone who deserves all the recognition he has received for his work with adoption. While an Angel of Adoption award is a very high honor, I simply think he needs a few steps higher. He changed my life, more importantly my daughters, for the better. For every birthday and holiday that will come the rest of our lives, Mr Thompson, Mary Waldrop and all of his staff will get a special prayer of thanks. He is someone who goes above and beyond, who is level headed when you are not, who carefully handles your case with the utmost care with genuineness. He is the only way to go when seeking out adoption. He is the best for a reason. Whether you are a birthmother in need of guidance and help, or an adoptive family looking to complete your lives, go to him. He will do what is right and I never felt any pressure from him which was amazing. Everything was my choice with him giving me the tools I needed to make clear, meaningful choices, I will forever be grateful and a simple recommendation does not seem fit enough, but hey, its a start.

These people told my girlfriend and I that this would be an open adoption. The family was supposed to contact us by email. Send us updates, pics, etc. They have yet to do so. We've asked this law firm for help in this matter and they just ignore us. I've even asked to speak directly to Mr. Thompson so he will know how his clients are being treated. I've yet to hear from him. They also have lied to us about the adoption laws in SC. Don't use this agency!!!!
