Deplorable. I had little other choice but to fire Valerie Hein as my attorney in a custody case. I am beyond disappointed and appalled in the quality of care she displayed regarding my custody case. I had asked her questions multiple times with no answers and she never followed through (unless further prompted by me about the status) on what she said she would do from setting court dates to sending me information. I have documented all of this (easily done based on emails she sent) and will be filing a complaint with the state bar. I brought up my concerns with her 'work' twice and her response was that I misunderstood or that she could understand why I was frustrated with how long it was taking but Valerie didn't admit fault. There was even a moment when she said the court date is...but that day came and went and nothing from Valerie. When I asked about it 4 days after to find out what happened she said that there was a misunderstanding of what needed to be done and that she would set it for a different date. Maybe she doesn't read her emails or she is overloaded by clients and can't pay attention to what she needs to do (recently hired paralegals which means they know they are too busy to do all the work on their own). Without divulging details of my custody situation, Valerie Hein was not only inconsiderate to me as a client to not be informed but it is inconsiderate to the witnesses I have asked to appear in court on my behalf as well as the other party. I was not the only person affected by Valerie's lack of communication and follow through. As a professional I would be appalled to treat any client in such a manner that is disrespectful of the time and money they have spent as well as the significance of having a lawyer in protecting what is most important, which is my child. I would not recommend Valerie to anyone since ethically she was comfortable lying to me, charging me for services not rendered/completed and her general lack of quality or dedication to her clients. Even now I am waiting on documents to be sent to me that she stated I would have by Wednesday. Overall, abysmal.Update 6/4/18. I went through the paperwork returned to me and come to find out Valerie omitted sending me information that was pertinent for me to know. By failing to provide me this information when she received it at the end of February it gave her an excuse to delay the court case. Deplorable.

I had a very important child custody matter. After calling law office after law office I called Bill and he answered the phone directly, not an assistant, not a paralegal. He was very genuine from the start and decided to hire him immediately after consultation. Any time I had a question I got to speak with him directly. Family matters are I nightmare to deal with but with the personalized help from Bill and Valerie, they made it that much easier. Thanks guys for the help once again.

Where to even begin... I was going through an extremely tough separation and custody battle for over 2 years. When I called Bill I had already been through 3 different lawyers all of which did nothing for me and charged me through the roof. I met with Bill after my call to him in Oct. 2015 we sat down came up with a plan and worked to execute it. Within 4 months of working with Bill Hunter my custody agreement was done and signed off on by the judge.Not only did Bill work diligently with my case, he was by far the best communicative lawyer I've ever worked with. Last but definitely not least Hunter & Hein were reasonable and worked with my financially. I truly cannot say enough about the 2 of them and how over pleased I was with my experience using them. If your looking for a lawyer who is on top of his game, continuously updating you, very responsive, reasonable with fees, and who truly has your best interest at heart - I would not hesitate to give Bill Hunter a call!

I engaged the services of Hunter & Hein, Attorneys at Law, Charlotte, NC to help me with a vehicle ticket that I couldn't get the court via fax to dismiss and didn't want to make the 4 1/2 hour drive to go to court. I spoke with Valerie Hunter on a Tuesday and explained the situation and she told me that she would get right on it. I paid the retainer fee and faxed her the necessary papers. On Friday of that same week she returned my call telling me that she was emailing me a copy of the dismissal as we spoke. I was amazed. After me trying to do it on my own for 6 months, she took care of it in just days and was very professional. I am quite impressed with this law firm and will definitely keep them in mind again should the occasion arise that I need an attorney. Their followup was great. I definitely would give this firm 5 stars!!!!

Finding an attorney I could trust was the hardest element of dealing with family law issues. I had worked with one other attorney and thought the attorney and that big firm received more financial benefits from me than legal benefits I received from them. I retained almost 4 weeks ago and she just asked for my bank statements a week ago to help figure out my case. Now that i have retained all the papers she called me today to let me know she is quiting knowing that my court date is in TWO WEEKS. If those papers were so important that she was going to quit, dont you think you would have asked for them on day 1? Also all 3 times she said she was going to call me, she didn't. This case is more important to me than anything because it is over custody and child support problems affecting my child's future. Thanks for leaving me and my family in jeopardy. Also the 'Law Firm' is simply in her house at the dinning room table. I should have known better when i arrived at a private home AND she was even late to our one and only meeting at HER HOUSE. Would not recommend for any legal assistance. And yes she is refunding my money minus the consultation fee.

Hunter & Hein are excellent and I recommend them without hesitation. I have a legal service plan through my employer, and discovered at the last minute that I could not make a traffic court date because of a last minute problem that came up at work. Not making that meeting would have meant months of work to undo the problems that would have arisen; missing the court date would have caused significant problems for me legally, and there is no way to contact the court to try and reschedule the hearing. My legal service plan was worthless, after several hours they referred me to an attorney who refused the case, saying that he 'does not do that kind of work'. The one good thing that resulted was that he gave me Hunter & Hein's contact info. They were clear, focused, knew immediately what I needed, and did not hesitate to arrange to help me-and this was at 4:00 PM the day before a 9:00 AM court date the next day. They were friendly, non-judgemental, charged a reasonable fee, took care of the matter efficiently and responded immediately when I had a follow up question. I could not ever imagine having anything good to say about lawyers-but I feel absolutely certain that I would call Hunter & Hein with any problem for myself or my family, no matter how large or how small. It is a great relief knowing that if I ever need attorney again, I can call them with all confidence that they will handle my concern effectively, efficiently, and in a timely way, or get me to the right person if they feel they can't.
